Show at the Clackamas County Fair this Sunday, August 23,

Don't
forget the maintenance...
It's
hard to believe summer is almost gone and the leaves will
start changing colors in one short month. Now is the
time to do that maintenance on your home to prepare for the
rain that is sure to come soon. Don't forget to clean
your gutters, repair any roof or window leaks, paint your
siding & trim and haul off yard debris. This is
also a great time to take advantage of energy efficient tax
credits by installing more insulation, upgrading your
furnace and/or replacing your windows. If you would

The Fall Home Improvement Show is
coming soon!
From September 24 - 27, 2009, the
Oregon Remodelers Association will be hosting their 34th
Annual Home Improvement Show at the Portland Convention
Center. Double J Construction Inc will once again be
hosting a display this year. Come join us on Thursday
night and participate in the Make-A-Wish
foundation fundraising event or come during the weekend to
take advantage of all of the other fun activities for adults
and kids.
At the auction, a large tree house
will be auctioned off. You can view the tree house at
the Oregon State Fair later this month.

learn more about the show and to download a coupon for $2.00
off the admission price. You will also be able to get
a free coupon book at your local Home Depot store closer to
the event.

OSHA Visit
During
these slower construction times, the staff at OSHA and the
Oregon Construction Contractors Board have more time to visit
job sites and enforce regulations. Recently, Double J
Construction Inc received a surprise visit from OSHA to
perform an audit. You will be pleased to know that we
had no major infractions and the auditor seemed impressed with
our office, shop, job site and paperwork. They only
requested we make one minor change in our safety information
for employees.
Fortunately,
although Double J has been audited several times by our
liability insurance carrier, workers comp carrier, the State
Unemployment department and now OSHA, each time we have
received a very positive report.
As
an owner, if you hire a contractor who is not properly
licensed, bonded or insured, the liability or injury costs can
fall back on you. The CCB is actively pursuing job sites
and fining unlicensed contractors, which is on the rise due to
the economy. To view the status of an Oregon contractor
you may consider hiring, contact the CCB for their history and
profile.
